Since their chance discovery in a series of mountain caves in the area between Jerusalem and Jericho in 1947, the Dead Sea scrolls have been the source of endless debate between scholars and religious organizations. Many books have been written, and many conflicting theories put forward about when the scrolls were written, and who wrote them, a debate which continues today, and will no doubt continue for years to come.
